NGU BASEBALL ANNOUNCES 5 EARLY SIGNEES

Justin Henson – RHP from Landrum High School in Spartanburg County, SC … the 6’2 / 200 righty ace of the Landrum Cardinal staff was all region, all-area, and all-state performer in 2008 season. 

He boasted a 2.57 ERA, recording 79 K in 57 innings pitched.  The right hander was 8-2 on the season and helped lead the Cardinals to their 3rd consecutive region and district titles.  The son of Mike and Kelly Henson, Justin has also excelled in the classroom posting a 4.2 GPA.

Jeff Witt – RHP and middle infielder from Greer High School in Greer, SC … the 6’0 / 150 is a solid offensive and defensive performer for the Greer Yellow Jackets … a four-year varsity performer … his .336 batting average last season and high on-base percentage have allowed him to be a catalyst at the top of the order … Witt has solid defensive skills and great speed (7.0 / 60 time) … The son of Darrell and Alice Witt boasts a 3.4 GPA and scored 940 on the SAT

Will Gladden – OF/RHP from Southside Christian High School in Greenville, SC … 6’2 / 170 right  hander possesses great speed  … 4.5 / 40 time and 6.6 / 60 time … a four year starter for the Sabres was an all-region performer last season starting every game in center field or on the mound … he hit in the lead-off spot for the Sabres and is a very versatile offensive threat … The son of Sandra and David Gladden, Will has a 3.98 GPA and scored 1090 on the SAT … Gladden is also the quarterback of the football team and a key member of the track team.

Jonathan Polak – OF/RHP from Northwood High School in Chapel Hill, NC … the 6-3 / 200 right handed pitcher and left handed hitter was an 2008 All-Conference and All-County performer  …  led the team in wins on the mound … voted best outfield arm in the County by the area coaches .. 4-year starter on the Varsity team … Jonathan was selected to the North Carolina Junior Olympic 16 and Under Team in 2007 and represented the team in the Home Run Derby competition … also a member of the Apex American Legion team and hit  .385 with 5 home runs this season …

Caleb Phillips – RHP from St. James High School in Georgetown, SC … the 6-0 / 155 righty was a key arm this past season for the Sharks … a solid arm with great movement and command … will be a key addition to the depth of the Crusader Staff … the son of Gary and Anita Phillips, Caleb also excels in the classroom posting a 3.9 GPA
