The North Greenville baseball team went between the chalk lines with one of the nation’s top NCAA II teams to open the season, the 23rd ranked Erskine Flying Fleet, and Head Coach Travis Henson say his young team will use the series as a barometer for the rest of the season.

NGU was beaten by Erskine 20-5 and 15-6 in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Due West.
“This is the best team that Erskine has ever had and they should compete at the national level again this year,” Henson noted.  “Our team got a look at the level we need to get to.  We took a different take on opening the season with such a great team – it’ll give us a good indicator of the hard work it will take to get there.”
Henson said that juniors Cory Hinton and Randy Stegall had two hits each for NGU in the opener Saturday.  In the second game, Corey Cline had two hits and a double, and Hinton, Jairo Mateo and David Frazier had RBI’s for the Crusaders.  Mark Benjamin and Daniel Goodnight also were cited for outstanding performances in relief on the mound.
The Crusaders will play its home opener Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 2:00 p.m. against Limestone College at Ashmore Field.
