Tusculum College turned away a furious North Greenville rally in the 6th inning of the first game of a doubleheader, and then cruised in the second game to sweep a doubleheader from the Crusaders, 7-5 and 9-0 at Ashmore Field Tuesday afternoon.

The Pioneers took a 7-2 lead into the 6th inning of a scheduled 7-inning game in the opener, but the Crusaders staged a big rally that closed the gap to 7-5 with the bases loaded and the winning run on first base.  However, junior second baseman Cory Hinton struck out looking to end the rally for NGU.
North Greenville managed only five hits in the opener, including RBI doubles by Derek Fulmer and Jairo Mateo.   Senior lefthander Devin Vance (Taylors, SC) took the loss on the mound for the Crusaders after going 4 2/3 innings.
The second game was all Tusculum as they pounded 14 hits and limited the Crusaders to seven hits in taking the shutout.  Fulmer had another good game for NGU going 2-3 at the plate and Markus Duckworth came off the bench and went 1-2 with a triple.  Grayson Smith (0-2) was saddled with the loss in four innings on the mound.
NGU falls to 0-8 on the year and will next play at USC-Aiken Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 4:00 p.m.  The Crusaders will then play a three-game series at Southern Wesleyan over the weekend before returning to Tigerville to start an eight-game home stand beginning with Mars Hill on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m.
