CRUSADERS TRY TO GET INTO WIN COLUMN – DROP 8-4 GAME TO USC-AIKEN
February 19, 2009
The North Greenville baseball team jumped on USC-Aiken in the first inning with two runs, but the Pacers rallied with one run in the 5th and two in the 8th inning to go ahead to stay to down the Crusaders 8-4 in a non-conference game at Hernandez Field in Aiken, SC.
Randy Stegall opened the game with a double for NGU and advanced to second on Cory Hinton’s bunt single. Derek Fulmer knocked in Stegall with an RBI single and Hinton crossed the plate on Anthony Foulk’s sacrifice fly to left to give NGU a fast 2-0 lead. Aiken went ahead 5-4 in the fourth inning, but the Pacers jumped on Crusader reliever Justin Williamson for three runs.
Derek Frazier also had an RBI for North Greenville, as did Jairo Mateo, who drove in a run in the third with a single. Williamson took the loss in relief of starter Tanner Yarboro.
NGU and head coach Travis Henson will play a three-game series at Southern Wesleyan Friday and Saturday (DH) before returning to Ashmore Field in Tigerville for a home contest against Mars Hill on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m.
