Crusaders Try to Shut Lions Mouths

The North Greenville University Crusaders faced foe Mars Hill today on the diamond.
It was a great day for baseball, and an exciting game for fans to take in. The game started on a good step when the Crusaders jumped ahead in the first on a Randy Stegall single, a Cory Hinton sac-fly, and a pass ball which plated Stegall. The Crusaders took advantage of a misstep by the Lions in the 4th inning when Anthony Foulk scored on a bobble by Lions 3rd baseman Tim Liberty. Speaking of steps, freshman pitcher Tanner Yarboro took all the right ones on the mound today, leading him down the path to an excellent 7 inning performance. Yarboro gave up 2 earned runs, 9 hits, and struck out 2, while exhibiting great command of his pitches. Yarboro was backed by excellent Crusader defense. Dayton Lupton flashed the leather like a gold glove third baseman, turning 2 double plays and 5 assists. Second baseman Corey Hinton made a beautiful back hand stab to throw a Lion runner out at first, and right fielder Markus Duckworth displayed his arm strength as he held two runners at third with great throws to the plate.
Unfortunately the Lions simply scratched their way back into the game. A double and a single plated one run in the 5th inning, an RBI single in the 6th plated the second run, and three consecutive singles all found their way to home plate in the 9th to seal the deal at 5-2 for the Mars Hill Lions.
It was a great game, highlighted by freshman Tanner Yarboro’s dazzling performance, in only his third collegiate start, and beautiful Crusader defense. But such is the game of baseball, everything can go as planned and each step can fall into rhythm and time, yet sometimes the win still walks away with the other team when the music fades.
Crusader Player of the Game: Tanner Yarboro – 7 Inn. 9 hits. 2 BB. 2 K. 2 R. 2 ER.
