LIMESTONE TAKES 3 GAME SERIES FROM NGUW ITH DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP
April 4, 2009
Limestone College kept the bats red hot Saturday afternoon in Gaffney, SC as the Saints pelted NGU pitchers for 28 hits in two games as they took a 12-5 and 11-4 doubleheader from the Crusaders.
Limestone had beaten NGU 16-8 Friday afternoon in Tigerville. The Saints struck for 18 hits in the game one victory, but the Crusaders were in position to make it close in all three games, but could not plate runners in scoring position. NGU left eight men on base in game one and 11 in game two. Rand Stegall led the Crusaders in the first game with a 2-4 performance and two runs scored, Dayton Lupton went 2-4 and freshman Dylan Fulk went 2-3. North Greenville’s biggest effort came with four runs in the third inning. In the second game, Limestone scored six runs in the first inning and four in the fourth inning of the scheduled seven inning contest. North Greenville put runners on base in every inning, but could not come up with the clutch hits. Lupton had yet another solid game with a 2-2 effort, Tyler Callicut was 2-3 with two RBI’s and Anthony Foulk went 2-4 with an RBI. Coach Travis Henson’s young Crusader club remains on the road for games at Lincoln Memorial and Carson Newman next week before returning home April 10-11 for their final home games of the 2009 season.
