MARS HILL ZINGS PAST NGU BASEBALL
April 21, 2009
Faithful North Greenville baseball fans might re-ask the question made famous by a Greenville resident, but only in reference to the outcome of Tuesday’s game at Mars Hill College … “Say it ain’t so!?”
The truth of the matter is that Mars Hill ripped 20 hits and had 17 runs batted in en route to a 17-7 win over the Crusaders at Henderson Field near Ashville.
Mars Hill got on the board quickly in the first inning, but North Greenville tied the game in the top of the third when Derek Fulmer (Pelion, S.C.) homered to left center.
After the Crusaders got back one run in the top of the fourth, Mars Hill again exploded offensively in the bottom of the inning. NGU cut the deficit to six runs in the fifth when Chris Harbit (Charleston, S.C.) hit a groundout RBI, and Chad Drosieko (Easley, S.C.) scored when Dylan Fulk (Mt. Pleasant, N.C.) reached base on an error.
In the eighth inning, Fulmer hit his second home run of the day, a three-run shot to left center, to cut the margin to 12-7. However, the Crusaders would get no closer.
Fulmer went 3-6 on the day, had the two home runs and also scored three runs for the Crusaders. Dayton Lupton also went 4-5 and Tyler Callicut had a 2-5 performance.
North Greenville will play at North Georgia College Wednesday in Dahlonega, Ga. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m. The Crusaders will conclude the regular season with home games Friday and Monday. NGU will take on Atlanta Christian Friday, April 24 at Ashmore Field at 3:00 p.m., and then finish up with Emmanuel College (Ga.) Monday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m.
