CRUSADERS RIDE STRONG PITCHING AND HOT OFFENSE TO WIN OVER WEST VIRGINIA STATE
March 19, 2010
Tigerville, S.C.—Sophomore hurler Drew Province struck out five batters and improved to 7-0 on the season and the North Greenville offensive provided plenty of support as the Crusaders cruise to an 18-5 win over West Virginia State.
After WVS failed to score in the top of the first, NGU took advantage and the lead scoring four runs in the bottom half. Two of the four runs came on a double from senior Jairo Mateo. North Greenville never trailed following the four run fourth piling on runs in the third (6 runs), fifth (5 runs), and sixth (3 runs) innings.
The Crusaders made a living off of big hits all game starting in the first on Mateo’s double. Dayton Lupton pushed three runs across in the third with a bases loaded triple. Four of NGU’s five runs in the fifth inning came on a Derek Fulmer grand slam.
The Crusaders will finish the three game series with West Virginia State tomorrow with a double header scheduled to start at 12pm.
