CRUSADERS SPLIT MID-WEEK DOUBLE HEADER WITH ERSKINE

North Greenville Wins Series 3-1

Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Crusaders wrapped a four game series with a mid-week double header against the Erskine Flying Fleet losing game 5-3 and Winning the second game 6-2.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning of game one but Erskine broke the tie with a two run second inning. The Flying Fleet added another run in the third and fourth innings to take a 4-0 lead.
The Crusaders finally got on the board in the bottom half of the fourth inning scoring three runs on two hits.  Erskine answered with an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning extending the small lead to two runs.
Brian Giles led NGU at the plate in game one going 1-3 with two RBI’s.  Derek Fulmer was 2-3 for the Crusaders, and Anthony Foulk was 2-4.
The loss to Erskine was NGU’s third loss in a row following two losses toWest Virginia State University. The Crusaders entered the second game looking to break their first losing streak of the season. A win in game two would also give North Greenville a 3-1 series win over the Flying Fleet.
NGU jumped ahead of EC quickly in the bottom of the first inning taking a one run lead. The lead would not last long however as the Flying Fleet plated their first run in the top of the second.
The Crusaders took the lead again in the bottom half of the second and began to add to their lead. North Greenville added runs in the third (2), fourth (1), and Sixth (1) innings. The run in the sixth inning came on an Adam Taylor solo home run, his second of the year.
Taylor was 2-2 on the day with two runs and two RBI’s. Other leaders for North Greenville were Dayton Lupton who was 2-2, Randy Stegall who was 2-3 with a run scored, and David Frazier who was 4-4.
On the mound for North Greenville in the second game was sophomore Derek Fulmer who gave up 2 runs on six. Fulmer struck out two batters and allowed 2 walks. He also helped his own cause at the plate going 3-3 and scoring a run.
North Greenville will take the field again Friday at 2pm to open a three game series with St. Andrews Presbyterian.
