CRUSADERS DEFEAT ST. ANDREWS IN WALK-OFF FASHION

Tigerville, S.C.—Junior Markus Duckworth was 2-4 with 2 runs and a game winning RBI helping the North Greenville baseball team slide past St. Andrews Presbyterian 9-8 in game one of a three game set.
The Crusaders got on the board first scoring a run in both the first and second innings. The Knights of St. Andrews responded in the third taking the lead on a three run home run. North Greenville regained the lead at 5-3 after scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Knights pulled to within one of NGU in the fifth inning making the score 5-4. The Crusaders’ lead remained at one run until Anthony Foulk powered a three run homer over the left field fence giving NGU an 8-4 lead.
St. Andrews would tie the game at eight after scoring three runs in the eighth and the tying run in the ninth. With one out and a runner on second Markus Duckworth stepped to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with a chance to win the game for NGU.
Duckworth would come through for North Greenville with a ground ball single through the right side of the infield scoring Dayton Lupton from second base. lupton also accounted for an RBI with a solo home run in the second inning.
With today’s win the North Greenville baseball team improves to 20-6 on the season. The twenty wins this season are two more wins more than the team’s combined record from 2008 and 2009 (18-77).
The Crusaders and Knights will wrap up the three game series tomorrow with a double header scheduled to start at 12pm.
