March 30, 2010
Improve to 22-7 on the season
Tigerville, S.C.—Anthony Foulk went 2-3 with a home run and two RBI’s guiding the North Greenville Baseball Team (22-7) to a 9-3 win over the Bears of Truett McConnell College.
The Bears plated the first run of the game in the first inning but would be subdued for the final eight, scoring twice more in the seventh on a two run home run.
North Greenville’s offensive power was once again on display Tuesday. Six of the nine starters for NGU produced at least one hit led by Randy Stegall who was 3-5 with three runs scored and two RBI’s. Adam Taylor (2-4), Derek Fulmer (2-3), and Brian Giles (2-4) also registered a multi-hit effort. Markus Duckworth (1-4) led North Greenville with two stolen bases.
The Crusaders plated runs in three of the first four innings with one run in the first, and two in the third and fourth innings. NGU’s most productive inning was the fifth scoring three runs on four hits. The Crusaders added an insurance run in the eighth inning.
Starting pitcher for North Greenville was Mark Benjamin. Benjamin pitched eight solid innings giving up three runs on seven hits. He struck out three batters and issued three walks. Mark Benjamin was relieved by his brother Matthew Benjamin who closed the game pitching one inning giving up no runs and no hits.
The Crusaders have little time to rest as they will take on the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University in a mid-week double header. The first pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
