NGU BASEBALL PROGRAM RISES TO #5 NCCAA NATIONAL RANKING

Having won its last nine games and raising its season record to an incredible 29-7, the North Greenville baseball program has risen to a #5 national ranking by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).

The Crusaders, which recently set a new season wins mark, are approaching the 30-win plateau for the first time in school history.    NGU swept a three-game set with Brevard College last weekend and completed a four game sweep of Emmanuel College (GA) with two wins on Monday.

Bluefield College of Virginia is #1 with a 15-7-1 record.  King College of Tennessee, which is #4, was swept by North Greenville during the first two games of the season in early February.

Second year head coach Travis Henson has the Crusaders rocking along with clutch pitching, key hitting and a passion for stealing bases and advancing runners with sacrifices.  “We haven’t gotten a lot of notice from our cousins in the NCAA, but we have gotten a few votes for the top 30,” Henson said.  “We just need to keep winning and then we’ll receive the attention we deserve.  We have the number ‘427’ on the back of our shirts because that’s the distance from Tigerville to Cincinnati, Ohio where the NCCAA national championships will be held.  That’s one of our primary goals, but we’d obviously love to get into the NCAA national playoffs as well.”
