CRUSADERS TAKE SERIES FROM SAC MEMBER MARS HILL

Mars Hill, N.C.—The North Greenville Baseball Team (32-8) dropped the first half of a Saturday double header to South Atlantic Conference Member Mars Hill College 11-7 but bounced back in a big way in the rubber game beating the Lions 25-14.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 4-1 lead in game one scoring two runs in the second on a Tyler Callicutt two run homer and two more runs in the third inning. After scoring a run each in the first and third innings, the Lions took the lead from NGU in the fourth inning scoring three runs making the score 5-4 in favor of Mars Hill.
North Greenville scored a run in the fifth inning to tie the game and added two more in the seventh.  Mars Hill however scored four runs in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth to secure the game one victory. Tyler Callicutt led the Crusaders at the plate in game one going 2-4 with a homerun and three RBI’s. Callicutt also scored a run. Adam Taylor also had a solid first game at the plate going 1-3 with a home run   and two RBI’s.

The Crusaders would exact revenge in game two. North Greenville scored a pride shattering 25 runs on 16 hits including five home runs which include two grand slams. Anthony Foulk (2) and David Frazier (1) accounted for three of the Crusaders homers. Derek Fulmer and Ben Stechshulte accounted for grand slams.
Mars Hill took the lead in game two early scoring five runs in the first inning. The Crusaders bested the Lions however platting six runs in the top of the second.

The Crusaders scored three more runs in the fourth inning. The Crusaders broke the game open in the fifth inning however scoring 11 runs on five hits one of which was a grand slam. The Crusaders had another big inning the top of the seventh scoring four runs on the Stechshulte grand slam.  Mars Hill rallied in the bottom of the seventh to score six runs but were unable to mount the comeback. The win in game three ensured NGU the series win over the Lions 2-1.
North Greenville will take a two day break before heading to Brevard College to wrap up a four game series with the Tornadoes on April 13th. The Crusaders took two games from BC in late march.
