CRUSADERS HOLD OFF HAWKS FOR NCCAA ROUND ONE WIN

Chowan, N.C.—David Frazier was 2-3 with a run scored and two RBI’s leading the North Greenville baseball team past Chowan University 6-5 in the opening game of the NCCAA South Regional Tournament.
The Hawks of Chowan took an early 1-0 lead but the Crusaders soon shook off the cobwebs. The Crusaders scored three runs on four hits in the fourth inning which included a single from David Frazier that scored two runs. The Crusaders added some insurance runs in the fifth inning scoring three runs on three hits.
After adding a run in the sixth inning making the score 6-2, Chowan sparked a rally in the top of the seventh inning but fell short after scoring three runs to make the final score 6-5. Other offensive leaders for NGU were Anthony Foulk and Derek Fulmer. Foulk was 2-4 with two runs scored and Fulmer was 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Adam Taylor also had a solid day going 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored as well.
Starting on the mound for North Greenville was Sophomore Drew Provence. Provence threw 5.1 innings giving up two runs on three hits. He allowed three walks and struck out three batters. Brian Giles was credited with the save pitching .2 innings allowing one walk and striking out one batter. With the win, the Crusaders move to the winners bracket and will play again tomorrow at 1pm against the winner of Emmanuel College and South Eastern.
