CRUSADERS OPEN WORLD SERIES PLAY WITH WIN OVER COLORADO CHRISTIAN

Mason, Ohio—NCCAA National Pitcher of the Year Drew Provence went the distance (7 innings) for the Crusaders giving up one run on five hits while striking out seven batters leading the North Greenville Baseball Team (42-14) to a 4-1 win in the opening round of the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association World Series.

Offensively the Crusaders overcame a slow start to picking up three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to hand the Colorado Christian Cougars their first loss of the tournament. The Cougars lone run came in the first inning on a solo homerun from first team All-American catcher Doug Pavlich.

The Crusaders remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when Markus Duckworth scored on an error on Colorado Christian. North Greenville took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Isaiah Johnson scored from second base on a Dayton Lupton single to center field. The Crusaders added two more insurance runs in the inning and the Cougars went down in order in the top of the seventh to end the opening round contest.

Offensively Adam Taylor picked up the only extra basehit for NGU with a double in the third inning. Dayton Lupton, Randy Stegall, and Brian Giles all registered RBI’s for the Crusaders.
The win over the Cougars is North Greenville’s first World Series win in school history. The Crusaders are now in the winners bracket in the double elimnation tournament and will play again Thursday night at 7:30 pm against Olivet Nazarene.
