Charlotte, NC- The NGU cross country team faced its toughest challenge of the season thus far when it traveled to Charlotte, NC to run in the UNC Charlotte Invitational. NGU competed against major Division I schools such as Clemson, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forrest.
The women’s team was lead by sophomore standout Raven Wamer. Junior Samantha Mayo finished 2nd for the team posting a personal best time. Freshman Currie Dickerson also ran well placing 3rd for the team and running a season best time. Sophomore Ansley Boltin finished 4th for the team also setting a new personal record. The women’s team also knocked off DI Presbyterian College in the overall team rankings.
The men’s team was lead once again by sophomore Andrew Mosteller who ran a season best time. Junior James Lind finished 2nd for the team also posting a season best time. Both freshman runners, Ben Wade and Jonathan Eastridge set new personal records and finished 3rd and 4th respectively for the team. Seniors Daniel Stockwell and Taylor Spence placed 5th and 6th for the team, also running season best times. Junior Cameron Stober and senior Josh Putnam also posted new personal records.
NGU cross country head coach Micah Sepko said, “I am extremely proud of the way our team ran today. We did all we could do against some very tough competition.” He added, “This was definitely our toughest race of the season so far. We were going up against DI schools and a lot of other big name programs. However, I think our runners responded in a big way by giving it everything they had. And because of their effort almost everybody ran either a season best or personal record, which is always nice.”
The NGU cross country team has two weeks off before its next race. The team will travel to Charlotte, NC once again to compete in the Queens University Invitational on Friday, October 15, 2010. The start time is currently set for 4:00pm.
