CRUSADERS DROP FRIGID CONTEST TO MARS HILL
February 9, 2011
Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Crusaders dropped its first game of the young 2011 season Wednesday afternoon to the Lions of Mars Hill College 1-0 at frigid Ashmore Field.
The game between the Lions and Crusaders remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Mars Hill platted the first run with a two out single scoring a runner from second base. The Lions lone run would be the extent of the scoring as the both teams were unable to generate much offense.
The Lions stranded 12 runners during the nine innings of play while the Crusaders stranded 11. North Greenville’s best chance to tie the game came in the 7th inning after a leadoff single from John Reinholz. The Crusaders went on to load the bases but with two outs but Mars Hill’s Tyler Stephenson forced a Derek Fulmer fly out to left field squandering the Crusaders scoring chances.
NGU threatened again in the bottom half of the 8th but the Crusaders were unable to score David Frazier from second. Freshman Ryan Woodring was charged with the tough loss giving up one run on six hits.
Woodring picked up one strikeout while walking 4 batters. Offensively the Crusaders had six players pickup a base hit. Travis Henson and his squad will take a one day rest but will return to the diamond on Friday for an afternoon matchup with Newberry College. The first pitch between the Wolves and Crusaders is scheduled for 2pm.
