CRUSADERS DOMINATE IN 16-5 WIN OVER SOUTHERN WESLEYAN

Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Baseball team continued its recent domination of Southern Wesleyan University after a 16-5 win over the Warriors Monday at Ashmore Field.

The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead on the Warriors in the first inning after scoring five runs on five hits. All five runs came with two outs. The two out rally was started by sophomore Adam Taylor who ripped a two out double down the right field line. Derek Fulmer scored Adam Taylor with a double to deep left field.
NGU’s next offensive onslaught came in the third inning. The Crusaders cashed in five more runs on three hits and two SWU errors extending their lead to 10-0. Southern Wesleyan cut the lead to single digits in the top of the fourth after a solo home run.

The Crusaders added insurance runs in the fifth inning platting three more on three hits. Heading into the seventh inning the Crusaders held a commanding 13-1 lead. Southern Wesleyan inched closer in the top half of the seventh inning however after cashing three runs on three hits.

North Greenville wasted little time picking up the slack. The Crusaders platted three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 16-4. Both teams were held scoreless in the eighth inning. SWU added one more run in the ninth. 

Ace right hander Drew Provence picked up the win for North Greenville after pitching six and two thirds of an inning giving up four runs on nine hits. Provence struck out seven and allowed to free passes. Daniel Goodnight pitched an inning and a third of relief giving up one hit. The hit scored three Southern Wesleyan runs which were charged to Provence. Goodnight walked one and tallied a strike out. Matthew Benjamin closed the deal for NGU after one inning of work in which he allowed one run on three hits.

Adam Taylor led the charge for North Greenville at the plate after going 3-5 with two RBI’s and a home run. Taylor also scored two runs. Derek Fulmer also had a strong offensive day going 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Backup catcher Perry Foster also added to the offense with a three run homer in the seventh inning.

Taylor Hollifield (3-5), John Reinholz (3-4), and Andrew Lawrence (2-3) also added to the impressive offensive showing. All together seven players picked up a hit while five players had multiple hit days for North Greenville.

The win over Southern Wesleyan is NGU’s seventh straight over the Warriors and the fourth won by double digits. The Crusaders improved to 13-6 on the season and are currently riding the momentum of a nine game winning streak. The Crusader will suit up again tomorrow for a 2pm matchup with Lenoir Rhyne University.
