BLACK NAMED INDIVIDUAL CONFERENCE CHAMPION
April 24, 2012
Vass, NC – Despite a schedule change and unpredictable weather, North Greenville University’s Adam Black was named individual champion of the Conference Carolinas Tournament while the Crusaders finished 9th overall as a team.
Under normal conditions, the Conference Carolinas Tournament would be played over a three-day period allowing each player to play one round per day. However, inclement weather pushed the start date of the event back a few days and forced the players to participate in a two-day, three-round tournament that was gruesome from the start.
On Monday, the temperature peaked at 55 degrees with winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour, making for a round first two round. Even with the rough conditions, Black was able to hold his own and come away with a first day total of 76-74-150.
With the championship in site, Black put together his best round of the season on the final day of competition, shooting a 5-under 67 to lead all players and finish with a three-round total of 217.
Other individual scores for the Crusaders were Josh ONeal, who overcame injury issues to tie for 36th with a score of 76-79-80-235, while Tucker MacDonald finished 44th with a total of 84-77-79-240. Danny Dippel shot 81-81-81-243 to finish alone in 47th and Sam Goodnight tied for 48th with a two-day total of 80-81-84-245.
As a team, the Crusaders earned a 9th place finish with a total score of 313-311-307-931, 33 strokes behind team champion Coker College who took home the title with a score of 305-308-285-898. Barton College (899) fell just one stroke short, while King College (907), Pfeiffer University (912) and Queens University of Charlotte (914) rounded out the Top 5 in the team standings.
