THREE CRUSADERS NAB POST SEASON NCBWA HONORS
May 17, 2012
Tigerville, S.C.—North Greenville senior left fielder and leading slugger Derek Fulmer added another honor to his growing list on Thursday afternoon. Fulmer was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Southeast Region 2nd team, after leading the Crusaders with a .413 batting average in 2012.
Fulmer’s .413 mark was good enough for 2nd among all Conference Carolinas players. In 2012, Fulmer pounded out 86 hits, nine of which were home runs, and 22 of which were doubles. His 86 hits led the NCAA for a majority of 2012 while his 22 doubles ranked him 2nd in Division II baseball. Fulmer was also named to the Conference Carolinas First-Team as well as to the conference all-tournament team.
Also earning spots were Drew Provence and Allen Staton, who were both NCBWA honorable mentions. Drew Provence was NGU’s leading pitcher in 2012. He sported a 6-3 record in 2012 while carrying a 2.67 earned run average. Provence struck out 73 and walked just 28 during his senior campaign.
Allen Staton stepped into the NGU lineup as the only freshman starter and performed admirably. Staton was second on the team with a .388 batting average with 15 doubles and 4 homeruns. Staton was selected as a first team all-conference performer and was also the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year for the 2012 season.
All together, Conference Carolinas placed 12 players in the poll, including 7 from Mount Olive, 1 from Limestone, and 1 from Belmont Abbey.
