Baseball loses two to Fairmont State

TIGERVILLE, SC- Fairmont State swept a doubleheader against North Greenville University Saturday afternoon at Ashmore Field. The Falcons won the first game 1-0 and the second 4-3. North Greenville falls to 6-10 on the season, while FSU improves to 2-4.
The first game was a pitching duel as Tony Magnanelli pitched six innings, giving up two hits and striking out five Crusaders, to pick up the win. Devin Vance struck out 12 in seven innings of work, but had to take the loss.
Erik Wooten doubled in Tyler Nunn in the fifth inning to score the game's only run.
Wooten, Jonathan Kemp, Andy Taylor, and Taylor Kraus had each had one hit for the Falcons.
Chris Tate and Rick Broadway had hits for the Crusaders.
Josh Kusich pitched five innings, giving up four hits and striking out three, to pick up the win for the Falcons. Bruce Whitehead took the loss for NGU.
Each team scored two runs in the first inning. Wooten hit an RBI double to give FSU an early 1-0 lead. Then, Kemp hit a sacrifice fly to score Nunn.
NGU got on the board when Tate scored on a fielder's choice. Matt Britt's sacrifice fly to left field plated Corey Hinton to tie the game 2-2.
FSU scored again in the third inning on another sacrifice fly by Kemp, this time scoring Wooten.
NGU answered in the bottom of the inning when Curt Marshall's single brought home Mike Reis.
The Falcons scored the winning run in the sixth inning as William Bussey scored on a single by Nunn.
North Greenville will be back in action Wednesday as they host Lincoln Memorial University.
