April 12, 2008
TIGERVILLE, SC – North Greenville University split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon with Brevard College. The Crusaders dropped game one 5-0, but won the second game of the day 4-3.
Game 1: Brevard 5, North Greenville 0
In game one of the twin bill, the Tornados rode the arm of sophomore left-hander Shane Galloway to victory, as the Rosman, N.C. native threw a complete game shutout in the BC 5-0 win.
Galloway spread out seven hits over the seven inning contest, striking out three and facing only 28 batters on for the game.
Offensively, the Tornados scored five runs on only four hits but it proved to be enough to pick up the win and snap their current 13-game losing streak.
BC got on the board in the fourth, as senior catcher Seth Corliss knocked in a run on a fielders choice, which was followed by an RBI single off the bat of freshman Stephen Mullis to put the Tornados up 2-0 early.
The Tornados plated two runs again in the sixth as Corliss drove in two on a single to put BC up 4-0 heading into the final inning of play.
In the seventh the Tornados added an insurance run as sophomore designated hitter drew a base-on-balls with the bases loaded to push Zac Williams across the plate and but BC up 5-0.
With the complete game shutout, Galloway improves to 4-5 on the year with a team-leading 2.29 ERA and five complete games on the season.
North Greenville’s Chris Kock picked up the loss, as the Crusader’s pitcher gave up two runs on three hits in 3.2 innings of work.
At the plate, Mullis was 2-3 with an RBI, while Corliss was 1-4 with three RBIs.
For North Greenville offensively, right-fielder Randy Stegall was 2-3 as was third-baseman Dayton Lupton.
Game 2: North Greenville 4, Brevard 3
Game two proved to be a different story than game one, as the Tornados out hit the Crusaders but ultimately dropped the game 4-3.
North Greenville got on the board first, pushing across a run in both the first and the second inning to go ahead of the Tornados 2-0 early.
The Tornados used a three-run fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead on the home team, as short-stop Adam Arrowood drove in two runs on a single to the outfield to give BC the lead.
However, in the bottom half of the fourth, the Crusaders scored two runs on one hit and three BC errors in the inning to take the 4-3 lead which they would not relinquish in the final three innings of the game.
North Greenville reliever Chad Drosieko picked up the win, as the right-hander went only 0.1 innings on the mound walking two BC hitters during that time.
Junior right-hander Spencer Linn (1-6) picked up the loss, as he gave up four runs, of which only two were earned, on eight hits while striking out five hitters in six innings of action.
BC third-baseman Stephen Mullis led the Tornados offensively, going 2-4 with a run scored for the game. Arrowood was 1-4 with two RBIs, while Brice Warner was 1-3 with an RBI.
For the Crusaders at the plate, Stegall was 3-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while short-stop Cory Hinton was 1-3 with a double and an RBI.
